What is SoundGrid?
The SoundGrid Studio System is an open platform that seamlessly integrates with most popular DAWs and SoundGrid-compatible I/Os, providing endless possibilities for setups of every size—from a single DAW with one SoundGrid I/O, to a whole network of host computers, I/Os, and SoundGrid DSP servers. With its dynamic I/O mapping ability, the SoundGrid Studio Application lets you configure your SoundGrid network, manage its various components, and set up any combination of SoundGrid-compatible devices. Its configuration module lets you assign and route drivers and hardware devices. The SoundGrid Studio Application also enables I/O sharing between several computers whose resources are managed from the designated host computer.
SoundGrid Benefits:
- Configures SoundGrid’s ASIO/Core Audio driver and I/Os (auto-configuration wizard available)
- Integrates with StudioRack and the eMotion ST mixer for real-time processing, mixing and monitoring
- Connect and patch multiple hardware devices
- Stream audio from and to multiple host computers running various DAWs
- Create and save your own configuration templates
- Control your SoundGrid I/O parameters (channel input gain, phantom power, etc.)
There are four basic components to a SoundGrid system:
- SoundGrid Studio Application for managing all hardware and software connected to the SoundGrid network
- StudioRack (runs on your DAW) for running multiple plugins and processing them locally or offloading their processing to a SoundGrid DSP server.
- eMotion ST mixer for low-latency mixing and monitoring when tracking, rehearsing, or streaming audio with plugins. The eMotion ST mixer has eight multi-purpose input channels and can also receive 64 channels directly from StudioRack.
- SoundGrid-compatible I/O for connecting multiple analog and digital sources to the SoundGrid audio-over-Ethernet network.
Integration with Pro Tools HD/HDX or HD Native - What you need
- Host computer (PC or Mac) with Pro Tools HD/HDX or HD Native hardware– Your main Pro Tools computer for running the SoundGrid Studio Application, StudioRack, and the eMotion ST mixer parallel to your DAW. Refer to the Support tab on this page when choosing your computer.
- DiGiGrid DLS or DLI I/O interfaces – For connecting your Pro Tools hardware to the SoundGrid network (DLS also has a built-in SoundGrid server). Pro Tools needs to be connected to a DLS or DLI via at least one DigiLink port (on your PCI card or on the expansion port of an AVID I/O).
- SoundGrid server – The SoundGrid server acts as an external “number cruncher” for offloading plugin processing.
- SoundGrid Studio Application – For configuring and patching hardware and software I/Os on the SoundGrid network.
- eMotion ST mixer and StudioRack – For running Waves and third-party plugins in real time (require licenses).
- SoundGrid plugins – SoundGrid-compatible Waves and third-party plugins for audio processing (Waves plugins require SoundGrid or TDM licenses). For supported third-party plugins, check this list (coming soon).
- Cables – Cat 5e/Cat 6 STP and DigiLink™ cables.
- Additional SoundGrid-compatible I/Os (optional)
- Qualified Network switch (optional, depending on your system setup)
