Peavey ADI-Q Active Direct Box with 3-Band EQ
The ADI-Q combines the features of a phantom-powered active Direct Interface with a 3-band EQ in a compact package. The ADI-Q allows the instrumentalist to control the EQ sent to the sound system and if desired, to their local amplifier. The ADI-Q is especially useful when the musician is not using an instrument amplifier but playing directly through the sound system and monitors. The ADI-Q can also be used as an EQ unit without using the sound system connection by using an external 15VDC supply. This allows the ADI-Q to be used in a guitar stomp box chain or combined with the ADI-C as when both EQ and dynamics are required.
So far we have only discussed the applications. But the EQ is the real story. The sweepable mid EQ control allows precise adjustment over the critical frequency range of most instruments. The high frequency control has an advantage over most standard treble controls. It allows the highs to be boosted without emphasizing the real high harsh sounds. The bass control frequency is set to control the low end without becoming boomy. As always, using EQ to cut offending frequencies is often the most effective approach. The ADI-Q has 10 dB of boost but a full 15 dB of cut.
